Mount Rushmore's carved presidents glow in a burst of sunlight with a faint rainbow arcing across the rock face.

16 Wedding Venues in South Dakota, From the Black Hills to Sioux Falls

Wedding Venues South Dakota // South Dakota has more range than most people expect. In the Black Hills you can marry beside a creek in Custer State Park, in a 1914 gold-rush opera house or under the limestone walls of Spearfish Canyon. Out west there are the Badlands, and in the east, around Sioux Falls, barns, a Japanese garden and the winery that made the stateโ€™s first commercial wine.

We checked every venue below on its own website, and the park and license rules on the official pages.

Written October 2026. Prices and capacities are the ones the venues published at the time; always confirm them when you inquire. Cover photo: Mount Rushmore by Mickie Alderink DeVries, from our communityโ€™s favorite landscape pictures.

Custer State Park, Hill City & Rapid City

Historic lodges in a 71,000-acre wildlife preserve, a ranch near Mount Rushmore and a 1928 hotel downtown.

State Game Lodge

Custer State ParkUp to 350 guestsIndoor & outdoorLodging on site

The State Game Lodge, a stone-and-wood lodge from 1920 on the National Register of Historic Places, has two wedding spaces: a renovated Event Barn for about 230 at long banquet tables, and a 4,000-square-foot Pavilion for around 350. Couples marry on a lawn beside Grace Coolidge Creek or on the Loverโ€™s Leap deck above it.

Catering is in-house, with per-person packages (the wedding guide is sent on request) and a $1,500 deposit. Music ends at 11 PM, the parkโ€™s quiet hour. In winter, from November to mid-April, receptions move into the lodgeโ€™s historic dining room.

Sylvan Lake Lodge

Custer State ParkUp to 250 guestsIndoor & outdoorLodging on site

At the top of the Needles Highway, 6,145 feet up, Sylvan Lake Lodge is a stone-and-timber lodge from 1938; the resort says Frank Lloyd Wright chose the spot. You marry on a wooden deck among the pines looking over Sylvan Lake, then move into the all-wood auditorium with floor-to-ceiling windows and a stone patio.

The lodge recommends no more than 250 guests, and the parkโ€™s restaurants open only from early May to mid-October, so ask early about dates. Good to know for both park lodges: a local news report in October 2026 said the state picked a new company, Xanterra, to run them from February 2027, so ask how a 2027 booking carries over.
