Fujifilm's instax mini Evo 2 Adds a Touchscreen and 100 Looks

Fujifilm has announced the instax mini Evo 2, the second generation of its hybrid instant camera. Like the original from 2021, it captures digitally first and only prints the frames you choose, onto real instax mini film. The new model brings a much larger touchscreen, a way to see beyond the edges of the print while you frame, and a short video clip of the moments before each shot. It goes on sale at the end of November for $289.95 in the US.

What’s new

The most visible change is on the back. A 4.5-inch LCD touchscreen replaces the 3-inch screen of the first Evo, about one and a half times the size, and Fujifilm says it is the first touchscreen in the instax range. Effects, settings and saved images can now be reached by touch, alongside the lens and film dials.

A new feature called Expanded View shows the area just outside the print frame on screen. The idea is familiar to anyone who has shot with frame lines: you can watch a subject walk into the scene and time the moment, rather than reacting once they are already in it.

Immersive Movie records a short vertical clip of what happened just before you pressed the shutter, saved to a microSD card and viewable on the camera or in the instax app. Fujifilm’s US release says four seconds and its global release says five, so expect a few seconds either way.

The creative side has grown too. There are now ten lens effects and ten film effects, for 100 combinations, including new options such as Soft Focus, Afterimage, Deep and Retro. DPReview reports a larger sensor than the first model and a wide-angle setting among the lens effects, and Fujifilm quotes images of up to 13 megapixels when saving to a microSD card, more than double the original.

The essentials of an instax camera are still here: flash modes, exposure compensation, white balance, a macro setting, a selfie mirror, remote shooting from a phone, and printing photos from your phone through the free instax app.

Price and availability

  • US: $289.95, available at the end of November 2026
  • Canada: CA$379.99
  • Japan: on sale from November 27, 2026, with a matching camera case following in early December

It comes in black and prints on standard instax mini film, the credit-card-sized 2 x 3 inch format.

Bing Liem of Fujifilm North America put the focus on versatility: “Evo 2’s new features give creators even more options for both still photography and video.”

What it means for film-look photographers

The instax look in this camera is part simulation, part chemistry. The lens and film effects are digital, so they won’t replace a real roll of Portra or the way a film scan handles skin tones. The print itself, though, is genuine instant film, and that is where the Evo 2 earns a place in a photographer’s bag.

Because nothing prints until you decide, it is a practical way to hand out real prints without wasting sheets: a print for the couple during portraits, one for the grandparents at a family session, or a guest book that fills up over the evening. Expanded View suits the way many of us work at weddings, waiting for people to step into the frame instead of posing them into it. And at under $300 it is an affordable extra rather than a serious investment.

If you already shoot instax for clients, the touchscreen and the new framing tools look like a real step forward. If you are after the full film experience, this is a fun companion, not a replacement for your film camera.
