Most of you probably already heard the rumor that you need a certain amount of words in a comment on Instagram to make it count. Well, it turns out that this was never true at all. All comment lengths count as engagement. It doesn’t matter if you use 1,2,3 or any other amount of words. Heck, even if you only use an emoji. As long as your comment is authentic, it counts as engagement. I bet a bunch of Instagram photography pods are really happy now.

2. The first hour does not determine your ranking! –

The first 60 minutes after you make a post was never really that important as you thought. According to Instagram,  posts do not get prioritized by the amount of engagement they receive right after you hit that publish button. Just make sure to publish anything during the right time, when most of your followers are online. The more active you are with your followers, the more of them will end up seeing your content.

3. Every form of engagement impacts the rank of your feed! –

Comments, likes, shares, and views all impact your feed ranking! The algorithm naturally prioritizes content with more engagement, but as there are so many ways to interact with content. What form of engagement does Instagram favor the most? According to Instagram, each form of engagement is measured in the same way. We do however believe that a “save” on Instagram might count as a super-like. Saving posts shows the algorithm that people are interested in coming back to see your content, telling the algorithm, it is really good content!

4. All types of accounts are treated equally –

Instagram just confirmed that personal, business and creator accounts are all treated in the same way. You do not have to worry that a change might affect your engagement any longer. The algorithm generally shows you accounts that you most often engagement, no matter what type of account that is.

The Instagram algorithm is actually super clever and it always creates a personalized experience. That means it does not favor photo over video or vice versa. If you personally like to watch more videos on Instagram, you will most likely end up with more video content on your timeline. If you prefer to look at images, Instagram will notice that and the majority of the content that you see will be photos.  However, videos automatically attract a longer viewing period making videos on the explore page, a perfect marketing tool to gain new followers.
